Event Description

Attractive economics and spreads for wood pellet burn in the UK, Denmark and Netherlands has boosted biomass demand and consumption this year. The unexpected rebound in carbon prices alongside a strong recovery in power demand has been the catalyst.

A shortage of supply has forced consumers and traders to search further afield for new production. The lack of new build wood pellet production in recent years has exacerbated the problem and driven up the spot and term pricing.

The Baltics and Russia has replaced North America as the main wood pellet supply hub for spot volume as Canadian and US exports to Asia continue to rise.
